This volume presents the first issue of Buddhica Britannica, launched with the initial co-operation of Wisdom Publications, London. Buddhica Britannica is intended to provide a vehicle for publishing current research on Buddhism and it is envisaged that it will serve as a forum for a wide variety of subjects dealing with different aspects of Buddhism, including culture, religion, philosophy, philology, history, art and architecture. The Buddhist Heritage, as it eventually evolved throughout the long history of Buddhism in India and subsequently other religions of Asia, can be aptly compared to a swelling ocean which, despite apparent limits, has been frequently employed as an example in some Indian literary themes to epitomize limitless vastness and fathomless depth.
